Different shoe size on each foot? Find your mirror size
Enter your left and right EU size. You'll see the sizes your SoleMate needs, rough UK and US sizes, and how many Step Swap members have them. No signup.
Enter your sizes to see your mirror.
Both feet are the same size, so you don't need a mirror. You can still swap a shoe for a different colour or style with someone who wears the same size.

How mirror matching works
Say your left foot is a 42 and your right foot a 43. Your SoleMate is someone with left 43 and right 42. Each of you keeps the shoe that fits and sends the other one, so you both end up with a pair that fits.
Matches on Step Swap are exact. A 42.5 only pairs with a 42.5, and a 42 never pairs with a 42.5. If you wear a shoe on one foot only, you need someone with a spare shoe of that side and size.
Why your feet can be different sizes
Most people have one foot a little longer than the other. For some the gap is a full size or more. Shoe maker Wolky estimates that in its home market about 6% of women and 5% of men have feet more than one size apart.
Retailers draw the line in a similar place: Nordstrom offers split sizes from a gap of 1.5 sizes. Read more in our guide to different shoe sizes on the left and right foot.
Before you trust a conversion
- Size tables are approximate. They round up to the larger size, and every brand has its own chart.
- US men's and women's sizes differ by about 1 to 1.5 for the same foot.
- Half and third sizes (like 40 2/3) vary by brand.
- Shoe size is not foot length. Measure both feet standing, in the evening.
- Children's sizes use different scales, so conversions here cover adults only.
- Width is not covered.
- This is not medical advice. For a new or large difference, see a podiatrist.
FAQ
Is it normal to have two different shoe sizes?
Yes. A small difference is very common, and a gap of a full size or more is less common but ordinary. Sudden or painful changes are worth checking with a professional.
Which size should I go for?
Fit each foot to its own size. On Step Swap you list both sizes and swap the shoe you do not need with someone whose feet mirror yours.
What is a mirror size?
Your sizes with left and right flipped. If you wear left 42 and right 43, your mirror is left 43 and right 42.
Does the match have to be exact?
Yes. Step Swap matches exact mirror sizes only.
Is Step Swap free?
Joining is free. Each swap costs shipping plus a small fee, shown before you pay.
What about half sizes and 40 2/3?
Enter the size you'd write on your profile. The finder does not round thirds, so 42.67 and 42.5 count as different sizes, the same as in the app.
